Mom T's B-day and Colbie Caillat

On Saturday February 27th was my mom's B-day.

A couple of months ago Tallene called me and asked if I would like to go to the Colbie Caillat concert and surprise mom for her birthday. So on Saturday Tallene, Eliza, Taylor, and I showed up at my mom's house around 4pm and told her she had 5 mins to get ready because we were taking her. Kimberly knew what was going on as well.

She just kept asking us where we were going and what we were doing, especially when we started down the highway.

The first place we stopped was at Sizzler in Pocatello where we had my mom's cousins Venus and Star meet us for dinner. Venus also brought another of their friends. She was very surprised and had a good time catching up with everyone.

At the end of dinner Venus and Star gave mom a card and Tallene gave her Colbie Caillat's new cd. We then started talking about how good she is, not knowing she was going to see her. She was even asked what she was doing for the rest of the evening and stated "maybe just go home and watch a movie."

When we were in the car driving she then started asking again, what we were doing because I drove into Pocatello and not home.

As we pulled up to the Stephens Performing Arts Center, Tallene told her to "bring in her cd in case we were able to meet her." She was totally shocked, it was great.

The concert was really good. The first act was one of Colbie Caillat's guitar players Justin Young. It was just him and a keyboard player. Very good.

Next was Colbie Caillat. We all loved it!

ShineDown and more Concert

On Thursday, September 24th, Krystal and I went to the ShineDown Concert.

In July it was announced that ShineDown would be coming to Blackfoot at the El Rey Event Center. I asked Krystal if she would be interested in going and left it at that. Then I surprised her and gave tickets for us to go on her birthday, Sept 9th.

Along with ShineDown was CAVO, Sick Puppies, and Adelitas Way.

We arrived at the show and both bought a ShineDown t-shirt. Then we went to find a place to stand. The El Rey is standing room only with the stage at one end and the rest open. We were only about 4 rows back and could see great.





The first band was Adelitas Way. I had heard on the radio show Hard Drive with Lou Brutus that they were touring with ShineDown, but nothing was announced so I was not expecting them. They were good and the lead singer Rick DeJesus was not bad to look at either! Their song on the radio is "Invincible" from the self titled album.

The second band was CAVO. Their song "Champagne" and "Let It Go" have been on the radio for a while. I bought the cd before we went and recommend it.

The third band was Sick Puppies. I had heard a few songs before we went. They are a little harder band not my favorite, but still good. During this band some people behind us started really pushing. When I looked back they were just pushing everyone in a circle and it kept pushing us around so I was hard to enjoy the end of the show. After this Krystal and I decided it would better to get out and go farther back so we good enjoy the show.

Then SHINEDOWN came on. Their show was awesome!! I had seen them once before at the fair, after that I bought their CD at the time. When their new CD came out I couldn't wait and was excited to see live songs from both. We were not disappointed. The whole show was high energy and I knew all the songs that were played.

TSO Concert

On Monday, November 10th, Mike, Krystal and I went to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert in Boise. If you have never been to a show let me explain a little about it.

First about the band. The concert only lasts from the first of November to the about the first week in January. They have two sets of artists that perform the shows. One on the East coast and one on the West coast. So some of the video's found on You Tube may not have the same set of performers that we saw and yes the lights were really that bright. (Be sure to check out the video at the bottom and other video's on YouTube. It is nothing like being there but gives you a great idea of what you will see.)

There are two parts to the show. The first part is a Christmas story with the music from their album "Christmas Eve and Other Stories." They use both a narrator and songs to tell the story.

The second part of the concert is more like you would expect a concert to be. With them playing songs from their other three albums. Along with all the songs is the best show with lights, fire, fireworks, and even snow.

The first time Mike and I went was in 2005 in Salt Lake City. Along with us was my sister Tallene and her husband Mac, Mike's sister Megan and her husband Scott and we had an extra ticket so we took Mike's 80 year old Grandma. We sat just to the right of the stage in the bleachers section. It was great because we were able to watch one of the amazing pianist's that they have. Everyone loved the show and has always wanted to back. Even Grandma says that it was the best show she has ever seen and enjoyed herself.

This year when we went we were on row M on the floor and right in the middle of the stage. It was a lot of fun to be so close and was great seats to see everything.

One of the coolest parts actually happens after the show is over. About 15 minutes after the show is over all of the band members and singers sit in tables and autograph items and shake hands and talk to you. It is great because then you are able to tell them what a great job they did.

While we were waiting for them to come out, where we were standing looked out onto where the stage was. We were able to watch the workers tear down the stage, all the lights and other equipment that makes the concert work. It was fascinating to watch all the work that goes into setting up and taking down one show.

If you ever get a chance to go I highly suggest it. It is a great show for people of all ages and the best show we have ever seen and I know everyone who we have taken agree.
