After being married for almost 10 yrs and unsuccessfully trying to have a baby on our own, we are now being blessed with the opportunity to adopt a baby girl due on August 5th.
In January Mike started working at the INL twice a week. One day he came home and stated that he had a present for me, I was curious because he wasn't holding anything. He pulled out a piece of paper and stated that on the paper was a name and number of a girl who was pregnant. While at the INL he had run into a friend who is friends with a lady whose daughter is pregnant and looking into giving her baby up for adoption.
We contacted and met the birth grandmother and birthmother. The meeting was for them to get to know us and for us to learn a little more about them. It was a little awkward, because neither one of us knew what to say. We ended up talking for about 2hrs and left feeling pretty good about the meeting.
For the next week we sat on "pins and needles" waiting to hear back if they choose us. At this point let me tell you one thing the birthmother was looking for. She wanted a couple with no kids so that the adoptive mother could go to the Doctor appointments with her and get to experience the pregnancy as well. This part I was excited about.
On February 12th at about 8pm we received an early Valentines present and received the call that we had chosen to adopt her baby. At the time of the call I was overcome with emotion and all I could say was thank-you and yes.
On March 10th the birthmother called me and let us know that she felt the baby move for the first time and how it felt. It is nice to know that she is getting comfortable with us enough to let us know these little things. It definitely helps to feel more connected to the baby.
Today, March 18th, I went to my first doctor's appointment with them and was able to see the ultrasound. I received some pictures and a DVD of the ultrasound. It is amazing to me how much we could see when the she only weighs about 10oz. and to the see the heart beating when it is only about the size of the tip of your finger. The ultrasound tech was about 80% sure that the baby is a girl.
Here is some of the ultrasound pictures:
She is stretching here.
Looks like she is waving!
Now we can figure out a name and start setting up the nursery. Mike and I are both very excited and know that the time will go very quick before she is here!
