Authors I Like

Reading has always been one of my favorite activities. I love picking up a book and getting lost in another world. When I was younger I would be reading as many as three books at a time. As I have gotten older and have less time reading for enjoyment had become less and less. I would occasionally choose a book to read when we would go on a vacation and be traveling for long periods of time, but most of the time it would take me months to finish it. With my current job I have been able to get back to reading and find some new authors to enjoy.

I work in an office,SCI, and with my job I can listen to music or I have found books on Cd's and tapes to listen to while I work just as easy. I can usually get through about 8-10 Cd's in a week, which depending on the book is 1-2 in a week. That means, I am able to get through a lot more books then I would have time to read. Plus I still have one book that I am just reading during my breaks.

So with that in mind I am always looking for new authors to read. Feel free to let me know of anyone that you really enjoy to read. Some of my favorite authors I have added their books to my Shelfari. Here are a few comments on my favorite authors and if you want to know about any book feel free to ask.

I have to start with my first "grown-up" author that I started reading, John Grisham. The first book I read of his was "The Chamber." I know not the best book to say is your favorite, but it is mine. I have read it at least twice and own the movie. So far I have liked every book of his that I have read and own most of them. My goal is to own all of them and to read them all.

One of my newest and most favorite authors I have enjoyed and try to listen to every book is Ted Dekker. The first Ted Dekker book I read was "Skin," after that I was hooked to his book. His Circle Trilogy, "Black," "Red" and "White," will take you on an adventure between two worlds through the man Thomas Hunter, a man struggling for an identity and for understanding on what and why he is the chosen one. The Circle Trilogy showed the struggle between good and evil to a way never seen before and draws the reader into the story. I listened to the audio book version of the Trilogy and the reader does a great job on all of the characters and keeps you wanting to put in the next disk. So far there is only one book that I have not completely enjoyed, "Showdown" and even that book I like. I want to own all of his books someday.

If you want an author that no matter what book you pick up will make you laugh then Janet Evanovich aka Steffie Hall is the author for you. She started out writing love stories like "Wife For Hire" and "Manhunt," to name a few. Then she has her "Full" series, I haven't had a chance to read any of these yet. There is the "Alex Barnaby" series, only two books currently, NASCAR from the life of a female spotter and her driver. Then there is the series she is most know for and that is "Stepanie Plum." She is New Jersey bounty hunter who blackmails her cousin into giving her the job after the company she works for goes out of business. She knows nothing about apprehending and doesn't like guns. With characters like Lula a 250lb ex-hooker, her on again off again boyfriend Joe Morelli, Ranger her very hot-sexy mentor and other love interest, plus other family and friends. Janet Evanovich's books will make you shake your head at the things her characters get into but most of all make you laugh. Definitely some great books to get away from the seriousness of life. Check out her site at http://www.evanovich.com/

Since this is getting so long let me just list a few authors that I enjoy (in no particular order):
Jeffery Deaver (Mystery)
Stephenie Meyer (Twilight Series)
Sandra Brown (Love Stories)
Sue Grafton (Mystery)
James Patterson (The Women's Murder Club Series)
Diana Gabaldon (Fantasy)
Barbara Delinsky (Great love/feel good stories)
Mary Higgins Clark (Mystery)
Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb

As I find new authors or read new books I will keep you updated. I will also try and comment on some of the books of the authors that I just listed! : )
